Venue Changes for 2018

Postby pochp » Sun Nov 19, 2017 2:55 pm

Thuy has told us that the CoLab will cease to exist in its current form. He asked us what we would prefer, and it's an opportunity to change our current situation. We have two options :
1- He has found another place he could rent in the same building where CoLab currently is. The space is bigger than the current CoLab, and it wouldn't be shared with other businesses, so he might be able to share the access code with a few of us, letting us open it ourselves. Since nothing else changes, this is really just a straight up improvement.
2- He could also not renew the CoLab, and we could start meeting up at the Versus Gaming Center https://www.facebook.com/vsgamingcentre/. 3713 Boul. Saint-Laurent Suite 301 H2X 2V7

Now this second option offers some interesting possibilities, but also forces us to change quite a few things
-venue fee is 5$
-Fridays and Wednesdays are already occupied at this venue, I think Thursdays are free so we'd most likely change meetup days to that.
-Location is a bit better for those coming by metro, it's walking distance from the green and orange lines (station Saint Laurent and Sherbrooke), similar walking time to MVA and Frontenac metro.
-Location is worse for those coming by car, free parking exists but it's a few corners away on side streets, though at least the parkometers stop charging at 9pm (rate is 3$ per hour until then)
-there's a much better selection of restaurants in the area
-Venue itself is bigger, and if we share it with other communities it increases our chances for getting new players interested in our games and community (esp with DBFZ coming out next year)

My personal opinion is that the VGC is overall probably more convenient for me and offers more potential to grow the scene, combining the efforts of the local FGC in a single venue, but I can see it being rather inconvenient for some others. We'll be hosting a meetup there this Thursday, for those who haven't been there yet, I think it would be worth trying to see what we think of it, but Thuy only has like a week and half to decide if he leases the other place or not. Post up with what you guys think.

Thanks

I don't think I'd be able to come to a meetup again in that case. Would have to leave by 8 in order to get home on time.

Is this Thursday meetup this week replacing the Wednesday meetup? the Friday meetup? Neither?

My schedule is a bit all over the place especially with the holiday seasons coming, so I can't say anything for certain.

I think I'm okay with Thursday but having a Saturday meetup would be kind of nice since even if I work on that day, I'd be off at 5-6:30 ish.

personally i will still go to both
say thursday at vgc
and Wednesday/friday at Colab
and since he can give us the code to colab to responsables people.
we can run tourneys/meetups on a weekend or soemthing special.

we can discuss with vgc and see if they have free spots some date other than Thursday.
